2023 Slow Hands Carignan Grenache
Farmed by Ben Lacey, McLaren Vale & The Watkins Family Langhorne Creek
NOSE
Black plum
Voilets
Baking spices
PALATE
Maraschino cherry
Cassis
Beetroot
Powerful and aromatic, with developed fruit characters on the nose and balanced,
integrated tannins on the palate. The carignan provides a depth of dark, stewed fruits and leans into tertiary and developed flavour profiles while the Grenache breathes life, and offers a nice acid brightness to boot. An incredibly lively wine with fruit, acid and body tied up in a neat little package.
Hand-harvested Carignan (75%) was destemmed and co-fermented with hard- harvested whole bunch Grenache (25%) in an open top fermenter. Gentle pigeage took place twice daily for 14 days before being pressed to barrel for elevage.
After 11 months in barrel the wine was racked and bottled in February of 2024 with only 733 bottles produced.
